How to support Ukraine
For a long time, we believed in rationality and a possibility to make compromise on the issues, around which the world was rebuilt after the Second World War. In those values and foundations which turned the continent into a place of stability and security. We believed, just like a person in a relationship until the final moments has hopes that the abuser (aggressor, offender, rapist) will calm down. That a last concession will stop the abuser before the final red line is crossed. However, no matter who that person is – a domestic tyrant, a self-righteous leader or a terrorist who has been blackmailing the world for decades – no amount of concessions can prevent us from being drawn into this inferno of violence. Only after realizing the need and readiness to counteract, to fight back against the aggressor, we find the strength and a way to escape this hell.
Together we all believed in a good fairy tale and became hostages of abusive relations with the Russian Federation, and there are not many ways to leave these relations. Either to continue to plunge into terror, by losing ourselves, or to break out of this relationship as soon as possible. Yes, breaking the connections has its price, but we must understand that this is the only way to save ourselves, our loved ones, the world and the way of life that made Europe safe and comfortable for decades.
We ask Europe and the whole world to help Ukraine protect itself, save lives and restore peace by:
1
Sanctions. Introduction of a worldwide energy embargo. Not selective, but sectorial blocking of the Russian economy, which directly provides/finances/feeds its aggression. Russia earns money to wage war, uses gas blackmail against EU countries, and blackmails the whole world with hunger. Therefore, the easiest and the most effective way is to cut off the Kremlin from its funding sources. Every European can ask their politicians, why do we keep paying to keep this war going? How moral is it to finance murders?
2
Support the shipment of weapons (including heavy) and defense equipment. Russia does not want to discuss how to restore peace and is not ready to face judgement for its crimes. If, immediately after the signing of the agreement on the export of grain to the world, the Russian army launches missile strikes on the port that is supposed to provide it, this leaves us with limited options. In a situation where it is impossible to appease the offender, the only thing left is to help its victims to protect themselves. Therefore, weapons and defense for Ukraine are the only way to bring peace to all of us.
3
Support Ukraine's membership in the EU. Together with you, we will restore the faith that Europe is not only about business, but also about true values and solidarity, consolidation in the face of common threats. Thanks to EU citizens, politicians and governments, we are already moving in this direction. However, this path will require time and willingness to act together. EU countries should accelerate Ukraine's integration into the EU with the ultimate goal of EU membership in all possible ways, including at the political and technical levels.
4
Invest in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine (Marshall Plan). The Marshall Plan helped to rebuild the world after World War II and could once again lay the foundation for peace in Europe.
5
Support the energy independence of both Ukraine and your home countries. It is necessary to help Ukraine develop alternative energy sources and make the country energy independent.
6
Individual support – financial donations, volunteering, assistance to refugees and displaced persons, appeals to politicians and your representatives at various levels. For centuries, we have collectively proven that autocrats and dictators lose to the people united by common values who are ready to act in solidarity. The notion that a "common man" cannot change anything is a nonsensical statement, which has been refuted by human dignity and courage throughout the history of humankind.
