THE SKY ABOVE KHERSON
In a city where explosions tear the air and ground apart every day, the people of Kherson portray a different sky. The sky they remember and believe in. Their homes burn and collapse daily, yet they still have a voice to say: we exist, we hold on, we still know how to see beauty. And as long as this voice is there, Kherson keeps living.

The sky is something that is always with us. It changes, but it never disappears. The sky is always beautiful. Almost always…

Kherson is the only regional centre of Ukraine that the Russians were able to occupy. The occupation lasted eight months, but Kherson held out and waited for liberation.
After fleeing the city, the Russians began to take revenge: not a day went by without the Russian army shelling Kherson. People's lives moved into underground shelters and hubs, which became centres of culture and cohesion. ‘Na Rozi’ hub was the place, where ‘The Sky above Kherson’ project was born.

The photos show buildings well known to every Kherson resident, now destroyed and deserted. But above them is the sky, which people have filled with their memories, dreams and hopes.

Voices of Kherson
‘The Sky above Kherson’ is our way of speaking about Kherson not through statistics of destruction, but through emotions and images. Talking about Kherson not as a “point on the conflict map,” but as a living city of people who love it.

More than 500 authors joined ‘The Sky above Kherson’ – children and adults, professional artists and those who painted for the first time in their lives.
The youngest participant is 3 years old, the oldest is 82.
Among the authors are those who currently live in Kherson and those who were forced by war to seek refuge far from home.
Three of the artists are now in the Armed Forces to defend Ukraine.
‘The Sky above Kherson’ is a testimony of our belief in rebirth and restoration, because we know that every sky is filled with light someday.
That light can be you and us.
