Journey to Vitovka

In Mykolaiv, not far from Kherson, there is the Korabelny district. And in it there is Vitovka - a settlement named after the Lithuanian prince Vytautas. It was he who, in 1399, during his campaigns in these lands, was the first to build fortifications and a customs house here for trade with the Tatars. Now there is the Vitov Ukrainian Society, and in the local park there is a Vitov hydroelectric power station, made by a local engineer-enthusiast. Vitovska HPP produces energy and supplies lighting in the park. There is a large HPP and a small one. The small one is made from a washing machine motor. Energy from a small hydroelectric power station feeds a fountain near the lake, in which local residents have planted river lilies. Once two women came and gave 400 hryvnias for development, with this money they bought a crocodile that decorates and protects the lake.

There is also a place in Vytovka where the society and the local community plan to erect a monument to Vytovts. As long as the stone stands. Therefore, Kherson artists, inspired by the micro-art of the British Slinkachu and the Japanese Tanako Tatsuya, made and installed a monument to Vytautas in the style of micro-art in Mykolaiv.

The "monument" was made by the artist Yulia Baluda.
