The synergy

of archaeology and land-art

was manifested when artists began to work shoulder to shoulder with scientists on archaeological site. Archaeologists were searching for artifacts, and artists were searching for new meanings. This project connects the past with the present, and two countries – Ukraine and Lithuania. That is until February 24, 2022, when Russians launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Archaeological excavations and art residencies in the South of Ukraine became impossible. The land was on fire, and now it is mined. Art became a weapon.

This web-site tells the story of the “Land-art and Archaeology: New Synergy Through the Borders” project as a living organism that was forced to fight for survival together with the country, to adapt, to change – and to became stronger. During the war, we have acquired new experience, and land-art have acquired a powerful voice that it did not have before.

We wanted to support those Ukrainian artists, who stay in Ukraine during the war. We decided to support them with financing of their art-projects on landart and environmental art created during the wartime.

NGO "Laboratory of Actual Creativity" (Vinnytsia) and land-art festival "Mythogenesis", which has been working on the topic of defining, creating, and producing a modern myth since 2008, became the conceptual partners of this initiative.
