Група створена як спільна ініціатива трьох організацій: Futur3 (Kельн/Німеччина), Театральна лабораторія “Totem” (Херсон/Україна) Молодіжна театральна студія (Бішкек/Киргизстан)

Проект “Посилка з-за кордону” спрямований на глибше порозуміння між людьми з західноєвропейських та пострадянських країн. Звичайні люди з колишніх радянських республік, особливо з азійських, досі мають замало контактів із звичайними європейцями, а ЗМІ досі залишаються головним посередником між громадянами Європейського Союзу та пострадянських країн. В результаті наше уявлення один про одного сповнене міфів, упередженості та спотвореної інформації. Стартовою ідеєю проекту було питання, як нам безпосередньо зв’язувати людей.

Головне художнє питання проекту – як творити мистецтво разом із глядачами, долаючи політичні та соціальні кордони. Ми впевнені, що нам потрібно спровокувати особливий вид діалогу між художниками та аудиторією з різних країн та середовищ, щоб вони могли створити власну думку про себе. Театральне мистецтво може створювати унікальні переживання поза рамками раціонального розуміння. Створена в рамках проекту вистава “Відправник невідомий” – це унікальна вистава, яка є місцем зустрічі різних людей з різних країн. Ключовою складовою процесу створення продукту є культурне розмаїття, яке представлене без посередництва ЗМІ.

А як щодо методології? Все дуже просто. Українські, німецькі та киргизькі артисти створюють спектаклі без акторів, але за участю пересічних громадян усіх країн. Яким чином? Проект містить три основні етапи, що реалізуються в кожній країні:

1. ПАКУВАННЯ. Партнери зустрічаються в одному з приймаючих міст для пакування посилок. Художники проводять поглиблені інтерв’ю з мешканцями цих міст. Ми намагаємось дослідити, які особисті історії, спогади, думки, пісні, жарти формують особистість кожного респондента. Після цього респонденти шукають звичайний предмет, який буде представляти кожну історію, і ми збираэмо предмети у одну велику посилку. Театральна вистава «Відправник невідомий» створена на основі цього матеріалу. Посилки відправляються з Херсона, Бішкека до Кельна та в зворотному напрямку. Усі партнери намагалися знайти та вибрати учасників різного соціального та культурного походження, різного віку та статі, щоб забезпечити широкий спектр індивідуальних життєвих реалій. Тим самим гарантується фундаментальний обмін знаннями в галузі управління культурою, міжкультурної комунікації та стратегій ефективності.

2. ВІДПРАВНИК НЕВІДОМИЙ: ВИСТАВА БЕЗ АКТОРІВ. “Відправник невідомий” розроблений як художній твір у співавторстві митців з трьох країн. Як це виглядає? Уявіть собі театри в Кельні, Бішкеку та Херсоні. Аудиторія заходить у простір і сидить. Підготовлена посилка з інструкціями та коробками всередині знаходиться на сцені. Аудиторія повинна зорганізуватися, відкрити посилку та вивчити вміст. Глядачі діляться думками, обговорюють запропоновані предмети, читають листи, виконують запропоновані дії. Проте аудиторія хоч і дотримується порад, проте сама вирішує, що і як робити та про що говорити.

3. ОНЛАЙН ГАЛЕРЕЯ АРТИФАКТІВ ГРОМАДЯНСЬКОГО СУСПІЛЬСТВА (ВИ ТУТ!) Упаковка, відправка та отримання посилки документуються. Ми зробили стандартизовані фотографії кожного предмета, і прикріпили листи від їх власників.

Do you know what people in southern Ukrainian Kherson think about western capitalism? Do you have a pen pal in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, who will tell you how people feed their families despite an economic crisis? Have you heard, that many people in Germany prefer to earn less money but have more free time? Are you curious whether these people, who live in different countries, have similar dreams of the future? Do these people, besides all differences, have similar ideas of happiness?

In the participatory performance PARCEL FROM ABROAD / SENDER UNKNOWN, the audience can expect a box filled with packages. The items and letters which the audience opens have been written by people from Cologne, Kherson and Bishkek. They tell personal stories of the search for happiness and dreams of the future. And they show what all of this has to do with the economy, work and money. But the packages not only reveal answers, but also many questions and requests for joint actions. In this way, PARCEL FROM ABROAD / SENDER UNKNOWN becomes a spontaneous questioning of the viewers. Where do they see themselves in the thoughts of the unknown?  This theatrical encounter between nations wants to find out what is really moving people in their lives, and to find answers beyond media narrations.

The international performing artists behind this project formed the collective UNITED SOLITUDES UNLTD. to try and put an end to singular approaches which end at state boarders and instead find a joint vision of happiness, if there is any.

The project ‘Parcel from Abroad’ targets a deeper understanding between the people of European and Post-Soviet countries. Ordinary people from Post-Soviet societies, especially from Asian ones, still have very little contact with ordinary Europeans, and the media are still the main mediator between citizens of European Union and Post-Soviet countries. In result our perceptions of each about other are full of myths, biases and distorted information. The initial idea of project was the question how to connect people directly.

The main project’s questioning is how to create art together with spectators overcoming political and social borders. We strongly believe, that we need to provoke a special kind of dialogue between artists and audience from all sides, to enable them to make up their own opinion, and to learn from each other. Art can create unique experiences beyond rational understanding. ‘Sender Unknown’ which was created in the frame of ‘Parcel from Abroad’ is such a unique theatre performance. The concept of the project, the process of working, and the artistic implementation was worked out by the international partners together. Cultural diversity is a key component of process of performance creating.

What about methodology? All is very simple. Ukrainian, German and Kyrgyzstan artists create the performances without actors, but with participation of ordinary citizens of all counties. Project contains three main repeated in each countries steps:

1. PACKING. Partners meet in one of the host city for packing parcels. Artists conducts in-depth interviews. We try to explore, which stories, songs, jokes etc. coins the identity of every participant. After that they are looking for a usual item, that will represent each aspect, and box them in one big parcel. The theatre performance ‘Sender Unknown’ was created on the basis of this material. The parcels are being sent from Kherson, Bishkek to Cologne and vice versa.

2. SENDER UNKNOWN: PERFORMANCE WITHOUT ACTORS. ‘Sender Unknown’ is designed as co-creational art work. The theatres in Cologne, Bishkek and Kherson. Audience enter the space and sit around. Prepared parcel with instructions and boxes inside is on stage. The audience have to organize themselves, open the parcel, and explore the content. Audience shares and discuss the items, fulfill actions. The audience follows advices and decided themselves, what and how to do and to exchange about.

3. ONLINE GALLERY OF ARTIFACTS OF CIVIL SOCIETY (YOU ARE HERE!) The packing, sending, and the receiving of the box will be documented. We take standardized pictures of each item which be exhibited at an online gallery.

We want to stimulate more participation of ordinary people in cultural, but also social activities. ‘Parcel from abroad!’ includes the public already in the beginning of the project. During the research phase artists collaborated with people in each countries. Their stories, daily-life-experiences, memories, dreams were documented, personal items, mass bulk, letters, pictures, audio and video files were collected.

The concept of the project, the process of working, and the artistic implementation was worked out by the partners together. All partners were trying to find and choose participants from different social and cultural background, different age and sex, in order to provide a wide range of individual life realities. Thereby fundamental exchange of knowledge in the fields of cultural management, intercultural communication, and performance strategies is guaranteed.

Німецький партнер Futur3 – це група артистів, яка має багато досвіду в сфері взаємодії з глядачами. Вони добре відомі в Кельні завдяки співпраці з іншими ініціативами та установами культури та соціальної діяльності (наприклад, Соммерблут – фестиваль багатополярної культури). Futur3 є одним із членів Freihandlezone. Freihandlezone – мережа чотирьох місцевих театральних компаній.

Молодіжна театральна студія (Бішкек) Професійна драматична театральна студія під керівництвом Шаміля Дийканбаева була створена восени 2012 року. Головною метою студії є спроба встановлення живого діалогу з сучасним глядачем, відсутність якого спостерігається в залах державних театрів. І саме цей принцип є визначальним у виборі репертуару студії.

They are well connected in Cologne due to collaboration with other initiatives and institutions of culture and social activity (f.e. Sommerblut – festival of multipolar culture). Futur3 is one of the members of Freihandlezone. The Freihandlezone is a network of four local theatre companies.

Youth Theatre Studio (Bishkek) is Kyrgyzstan partner. The Studio provides rehearsal space, venue for performances and local advertising as well.

André Erlen

Theatremaker

In 1974 André is born in Germany. After high-school he graduates at the highly recommended Kunstakademie Düsseldorf joining painting and art theory classes of Prof. Gerhard Merz. From 1995-2001he is member of the Actors´ Studio Pulheim. He joins the Studio’s German-Polish educational program including collaboration with the Theatrer School Cracow, Teatr Gardzienice, and acting teachers like Jerzy Stuhr, Krystof Miklaszewski, and the singer Olga Schwajgier. The actor Jan Peszek introduces André into the idea of "instrumental acting" and "music for actors" created by polish composer Boguslaw Schaeffer. In 2002 he starts to create music and theatre show with the Ukrainian singer and composer Mariana Sadovska. He is collaborating with the performance artist Judith Wilske creating interactive shows and artistic interventions. Since 2004 he is the artistic co-director of Futur3 experimental theatre, a founding member of the theatre network Freihandelszone – cologne. Futur3's mission is to create original performances at site-specific spaces involving the audience into action. The projects were shown in many country abroad. Since 2006 André is the artistic co-director and curator of the international festival for dance and theatre GLOBALIZE:COLOGNE. He participates in different artists platforms in Europa and Asia (Monsoon Seul and Leuven; COLINA Düsseldorf; EEPAP Sofia). André received several awards for his acting and directing skills. He leads workshops in theatres and University for actors, such as International workshop festival Tel Aviv Israel and Princeton University, USA. Since 2016 works as acting teacher at Theaterakademie Köln. He conducts international theater productions as artistic director, such as “Taburopa – a performance project on taboos in European societies”, in cooperation with cultural instituitons from Warsaw (Poland), Brussels (Belgium, and Lisbon (Portugal), supported by the EU-grant Creative Europe.

Futur3

Associated partner Cologne, Germany Futur3 is an independent theatre collective from Cologne. Their projects and productions are dedicated to current social phenomena. The collective approach and debate leads to particular theatre productions. While breaching taboos belongs to their artistic strategy this naturally affects the production as well as the elaboration of the subject matter Futur3 stages all of these productions with humour, true to the saying of the dramaturge and director George Tabori: ‘The best joke is the one you can’t laugh about.’ All productions are ‘site-specific’ to offer the spectator an unusual approach to the subject matter and an intense theatre experience.
